You don't always need to paint the whole flat: sometimes you just want to freshen up the bedroom or add a bit of colour to the living room. I'm Pepe, a painter in Elche, and here I'll explain how much it costs to paint a single room and what it depends on, so you know whether it's worth it.
Painting one room on its own works out proportionally a bit dearer than painting the whole flat, because the setting up, masking and travel are much the same for one room as for several. Even so, it's still one of the cheapest improvements you can make to a home.
Rough price per room
As a quick guide, painting a normal room in good condition (walls and ceiling, white or a light shade) usually comes in around these rough figures:
| Room | Rough price |
|---|---|
| Bedroom or small room (~10-14 m²) | 120 – 250 € |
| Living room or large room | 250 – 450 € |
| Kitchen or bathroom (washable/anti-mould paint) | from 150 € |
What pushes the price of a room up
Two rooms the same size can cost different amounts. Here's what moves the figure most:
- Painting the ceiling too (more awkward, but it leaves the room looking much fresher).
- Filling lots of picture-hook holes, scuffs or cracks before painting.
- Going from a dark colour to a light one: it needs more coats to cover.
- Woodchip you want skimmed smooth, which is separate from the painting.
- Damp or mould on a wall, which has to be treated first (kitchens and bathrooms).
Should I paint it myself or call a painter?
For a simple, square room, with a bit of skill and some time, you can do it yourself and save on the labour. Where a pro really shows is on ceilings, in clean corners and cutting-in lines, in covering a strong colour properly and in leaving zero drips or roller marks.
If the room has woodchip, damp, high ceilings or you want a fine finish with no lines, that's where it pays to have me do it: I leave it spot on, with nothing for you to touch up, and at a fair price.
A tip to make it better value
If you're thinking of painting one room, work out whether in a few months you'll want to paint the hallway or another room too. Doing it all in the same visit brings the price per room right down, because the setting up, masking and travel are shared. Just tell me and I'll quote you both options so you can compare.

FAQ
- Will you paint a single room or just whole flats?
- I'll happily come out for just one room. I give you a fixed price for that room, and if you fancy adding another I'll tell you how much you save by doing them at the same time.
- How long does it take to paint a room?
- A normal room is usually ready in a day (a day and a half if it needs the ceiling, two coats of a strong colour or some repairs). I confirm the timing when I give you the quote.
- Do I need to take the furniture out?
- No. I move the furniture to the middle and cover it, protect the floor and paint around it. You don't have to shift anything heavy.
